Important safety & field guidance
Forecast estimate: Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) on this page incorporates solar radiation, humidity, ambient temperature, and wind speed for U.S. Soccer Category 3 regions. Confirm conditions with an onsite WBGT meter when values approach threshold boundaries.
U.S. Soccer Recognize to Recover Guidelines:
- GREEN (WBGT < 82.2°F / AQI ≤ 50): Normal activity with regular hydration breaks.
- YELLOW (WBGT 82.2°F – 87.0°F / AQI 51–100): Provide three 4-min breaks per hour or 12-min break every 40 mins.
- ORANGE (WBGT 87.1°F – 90.0°F / AQI 101–150): Maximum 2 hours training. Four 4-min breaks per hour or 10-min break every 30 mins.
- RED (WBGT 90.1°F – 91.9°F / AQI 151–200): Maximum 1 hour training. Four 4-min breaks within the hour. No additional conditioning.
- BLACK (WBGT ≥ 92.0°F / AQI > 200): Cancel or delay outdoor activity until conditions improve.
Coaches retain full authority to delay or cancel activity whenever field conditions or player safety warrant, even if this page indicates play is permitted.
Lightning Policy: Lightning overrides all heat and air quality guidance. Suspend outdoor activity immediately when thunder is heard or lightning is observed, and seek safe shelter for at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder.
